Chairman's Report to the Annual General Meeting 2009
The last increase in membership subscriptions was in 2003. Recently we have felt the impact of cost increases outside our control, particularly for the Bulletin and its postage. At the same time interest earned has been considerably reduced. To ensure that we cover our annual expenses and maintain funds to finance publications the AGM agreed to the small increase in subscriptions.
A subscription form is enclosed with the Winter Bulletin and we shall be grateful to receive payment at your earliest convenience. Your membership is greatly appreciated by the Society.

History of Saddleworth 1828 - James Butterworth
The Society has republished:-
James Butterworth’s
History of Saddleworth
contains a history of Saddleworth from the
earliest times followed by a description of the
parish. As a knowledgeable local man
Butterworth was able to give a fascinating and
detailed picture of Saddleworth at that date.
The Society is now republishing Butterworth’s
History in a fine facsimile edition.IIn addition it includes an extensive introduction by Dr Robert Poole, who is an expert on the period, a contributor to the new Dictionary of National Biography and co-author of a book on Butterworth and his son Edwin.
The Butterworth histories of Ashton and Oldham have already been republished and now this edition fittingly complements them. It is an important addition to the bookshelves of local historians and lovers of Saddleworth. The book is now available for purchase.
Standard edition: Approx 9¼ x 5¼ inches, pages 86 plus introduction, hard back bound in buckram, printed on library quality paper, with dust jacket.
