Ever wondered what life was like here a hundred years ago, two hundred years ago, three hundred years ago or as long ago as the time of Queen Elizabeth I? What did people in Saddleworth do for a living; were they poor or well off, did they ever die of plague or starve in hard times? Where did they buy or sell their goods? Did they ever leave the district? Were they ever soldiers or sailors? Who built their houses; did they own their own houses or land, or was there a landlord or a local squire?
Joining the Society will give you access to Saddleworth’s fascinating past. The annual programme of activities and events includes a series of monthly lectures, a quarterly Bulletin and access to the Members’ Area of this website.
