bringing history to life

A Saddleworth Bibliography

Whilst this bibliography attempts to be comprehensive it has also been necessary to limit its scope. Firstly, it excludes fiction and poetry. Secondly, and this is a more difficult delineator, it aims to include publications of interest to the historian rather than the collector of all things Saddleworth. An attempt has also been made to include works which include Saddleworth where this incorporates original material but not where there are only a few references or where the material used is largely taken from other works.  Neil Barrow was responsible for a detailed search for the period 1980-89.  Other periods are less complete and work is ongoing.  Please bring any additions to the attention of  Mike Buckley.

Most of the works cited are available in one or more of the following libraries.

Saddleworth Historical Society Archives.  Uppermill Museum.  Contact Wilf Theakstone for details.

The Irad Hewkin Collection.  Uppermill Library.

Oldham Local Studies Centre.  Union Street, Oldham.

Local Interest Centre.  Manchester Central Library.

For details of Saddleworth Historical Society publications still in print see Current Publications.  Books out of print can sometimes be obtained from Antiquarian Booksellers.
